Authentic to Train Up to Kentucky Derby

With the win secured in the July 18 TVG.com Haskell Stakes (G1) at Monmouth Park, Authentic will train into the Sept. 5 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) at Churchill Downs. Trainer Bob Baffert reported Sunday that Spendthrift Farm, MyRaceHorse Stable, Madaket Stables, and Starlight Racing’s Into Mischief  colt came out of the Haskell in terrific shape and was headed by van to Lexington, where he will remain for a week before catching a flight back to his Southern California base…

Authentic Beats Ny Traffic by a Nose to Win Haskell

Bob Baffert doesn’t always win the $1 million TVG.com Haskell Stakes. It just seems that way. After taking a five-year respite, including a runner-up finish behind 3-year-old champion Maximum Security in 2019, Baffert added another brick to the wall July 18 when Authentic captured the $1,005,000 Haskell at Monmouth Park to extend the Hall of Fame trainer’s record total to nine wins in the 1 1/8-mile, Grade 1 race for 3-year-olds…

In order: Churchill Downs or Oaklawn Racing and Casino Resort in Arkansas. Outside of his family, Mara, the Giants senior vice president of player personnel, has three loves in life. In order: The Giants, horse racing and golf. In a perfect world, Mara — who has ownership interests in race horses…

Baffert On His Terrific Trio: ‘I Cannot Separate Those Horses Right Now’

Once upon a time, Bob Baffert was a Quarter Horse jockey. It was his success (or lack thereof) in that profession that led to his current career path as a Hall of Fame Thoroughbred trainer. Figuring that the fires still may burn within the 67-year-old Arizona native to ride fast horses, we asked the question that many in racing would like to know: Which of his three undefeated 3-year-olds – Grade 2 San Felipe winner Authentic or Saturday’s winners of…
