Starlight Racing Goes International
We began this international venture in 2020, and in our first year, we have had immediate success. From our first horses to hit the track in Australia, we have had two Group 1 winners with In The Congo in the Golden Rose Stakes and Captivant in the Champagne Stakes, a Group 2 winner with Tiger of Malay in the Sires’ Produce Stakes, and several other winners.
Our horses are trained by some of the best trainers, not only in Australia but in the World. This year we have colts trained by Peter & Paul Snowden, Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, John Moore, Michael Freedman, and Team Hawkes.
The Inception of Starlight Australia
In Newgate Racing’s first four years of buying colts in Australia, and as part of their Newgate Colts Syndicate, they developed three Group 1 winning colts, all of whom went to stud as highly commercial sires; Russian Revolution, Capitalist, and Invader, with the latter two both becoming the Champion 2-Year-Old Colts of their generation. Newgate has shown us that they have a system that works, and they are currently running a very successful race-to-breed program in Australia.
The Australian thoroughbred racing industry is a vibrant, main-stream sport. Articles about our horses can be found on the front page of national newspapers and on major news channels. The industry is backed by a strong funding model which leads to exceptional prize money. During the Spring in Sydney there is a $1,000,000 race every weekend.
This is Starlight’s newest, international endeavor, and it is a truly unique and innovative syndicate experience. We feel fortunate to be at the forefront of it and have enjoyed the start of this new segment developing champion colts and high-level commercial stallion prospects for the international arena.
