In 2000, Starlight Stables was founded by Jack and Laurie Wolf, who had always shared a lifelong passion for thoroughbreds and the thrill of horse racing. In their first year, they purchased six yearlings from the Fasig-Tipton July Yearling sale, including a special colt named Harlan’s Holiday. He achieved great success on the track, having won three Grade 1 stakes races and amassing $3.6M in earnings, he remains a source of inspiration that continues to drive Starlight and StarLadies Racing to this day. Harlan’s Holiday later became a successful sire, with the likes of Shanghai Bobby, Neolithic, Into Mischief, and several others.
In 2002, Starlight Stables transformed into Starlight Racing as they formed their first racing partnership with friends and began accepting new partners. Over the years, we have had more than 30 Graded Stakes Champions race under our iconic blue and yellow silks. Our process involves acquiring elite yearlings with exceptional bloodlines from top auction houses in North America.
Then, in 2013, after more than a decade of racehorse ownership, multiple graded stakes champions, and the eagerness to unite women in thoroughbred racing, Laurie Wolf founded StarLadies Racing. StarLadies is a very unique thoroughbred partnership in the States, as we only take female partners and we only purchase fillies at the yearling sales. In 2019 we ventured with It’sAllAboutTheGirls racing syndicate in a co-ownership of fillies located in France. This was a fabulous time to travel internationally with like-minded women, however, due to COVID-19 we have yet to get back!
In 2020, Starlight Racing kicked off its international ventures with Starlight Australia. This foray into the international arena is our most recent and substantial endeavor, where we buy in with the ever-successful Newgate Colt Syndicate, managed by Henry Field. Over the past three years, we have had monumental success on the racetrack and have thoroughly enjoyed attending the finest yearling sales at both Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale & Inglis Easter Sale.
For all three of our partnership offerings, we always aspire to provide our partners with the highest echelon of racing available across the United States and Australia. Throughout our history, our partners have been able to witness 1 Triple Crown Winner, 2 Kentucky Derby Winners, 3 Preakness Winners, 3 Breeders’ Cup Winners, and over 33 individual Grade 1 wins. Not only do we provide top competition for our partners we also offer several social events, outside of the race days. Between yearling sales at North America’s most prestigious auctions, or gathering in Ocala, Florida in February to watch our young horses go through their first works, Starlight has an exclusive and exciting event planned for you!
Our horses have competed in prestigious meets worldwide, from Kentucky, New York, Florida, and California to races in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and Australia. Overview of our Partnership Structure
We do not sell shares of individual horses because we offer the same level of service and performance to all of our partners. We want all of our partners to be involved with all of the horses, and to share in all of their successes. In order to accommodate this unique and successful model, we choose to sell units of an overall crop, instead. Learn more about joining our partnership on our FAQs page.
Journey to The Races: Preparing Two-Year-Olds
We are so proud of all that our partnerships have to offer. Please take a look at our history and awards to learn more about us. Buy-ins happen on a yearly basis and are for partnership horses purchased in that year only.
This allows us to keep our partner-base intimate while passing on the greatest benefit possible to our partners. Read more about Starlight Racing, Starlight Australia, and our standalone, ladies-only partnership, StarLadies Racing on their individual pages.
