Jack & Laurie Wolf

Starlight Racing, StarLadies Racing

Starlight Racing was founded in 2000 by Jack and Laurie Wolf as the culmination of their virtually lifelong interest in thoroughbreds and horse racing. That first year, the Wolf’s purchased six yearlings at the Fasig-Tipton July Sale in Kentucky, and amongst those six horses was a very special yearling they would eventually name Harlan’s Holiday.

Harlan’s Holiday was a colt that ran with his heart on his sleeve. He amassed $3.6M in earnings, three Grade 1 wins, and a second in the world’s richest race, the coveted Dubai World Cup. He is a horse that fueled Jack and Laurie’s passion, and that passion remains a source of inspiration for Starlight and StarLadies Racing today.

Jack is a native of Louisville, Kentucky and a former professor. He went on to start a hedge fund with Columbus Partners in Atlanta, and stayed on to manage the fund until his retirement.

In 2011, Jack’s high regard for the horse led him to orchestrate the launch of the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA). For the first time in history, the industry had a broad-based initiative dedicated to helping retired thoroughbreds. He became the TAA’s first president, and a longtime member of their board of directors. In 2015, Jack accepted a special Eclipse Award on behalf of the TAA. In addition, he is a past board member of Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA), and Race For Education.

Jack received the Warner L. Jones Horseman of the Year Award in 2013 in recognition of his numerous contributions to the sport. This prestigious award is bestowed on industry participants who embody the spirit and passion of the sport.

In 2017, he was appointed CEO of the inaugural Pegasus World Cup. At the time, the Pegasus was the world’s richest race, and he helped guide its launch through its fledgling year. He currently serves on the board of the Thoroughbred Idea Foundation (TIF). It is a not-for-profit that aims to improve the thoroughbred racing industry for all stakeholders.

Laurie is a past board member for the Race For Education, a not-for-profit based in Versailles, Kentucky. Race For Education provides opportunities for educational success for young people with significant financial need and academic challenges. Laurie serves on the board of the Backside Learning Center (BLC). Their programs enrich the lives of equine workers and their families through education, assistance, and other programs. A native of Louisiana, Laurie serves as Managing Partner and CEO for StarLadies Racing.

Jack and Laurie reside in Louisville, Kentucky and Saratoga Springs, New York.
