Frank Brothers

Starlight Racing, StarLadies Racing

Frank Brothers is known among influential racing participants for his keen ability to assess potential in young horses. Frank is a former top level trainer, a conformation expert, and a highly regarded bloodstock agent. He works with the Starlight team to select the best yearling prospects for us at the sales. The New Orleans native and Louisville resident followed his childhood interest in horses to become a trainer.

Frank realized that dream and surpassed it. Rising to the highest ranks of the sport, he directed both public and private stables over his career for such names as Claiborne Farm, Lazy Lane Farms, Heidi Doubleday, and Bruce Lunsford. He has collected leading trainer titles at Keeneland, Churchill Downs, Fair Grounds, Oaklawn Park and Louisiana Downs throughout his distinguished career.

Frank retired from training early in 2009 to focus on bloodstock work after achieving feats such as purchasing and developing 1991 Preakness and Belmont Stakes winner Hansel, the Champion male of his generation. He also purchased and developed to champions, Grade 1 winners Secret Hello, Arch, Madcap Escapade, and First Samurai, Grade 2 winners Mighty and Belair Beauty, and Grade 3 winners Ocean Crest and Tessa Blue. As homebreds, he also developed talented Grade 1 winner Oath and the famous, stallion still known as a sire of sires, Pulpit.

In 2015, he was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame with more than 270 stakes wins to his credit, $49M in career earnings, and a 50% in the money and 22% win average throughout his forty year training career. He is the first thoroughbred trainer ever inducted into the Hall.
