Bob Baffert

Trainer

Bob Baffert grew up on his family’s cattle ranch with parents, Bill (a cattle rancher and American Quarter Horse breeder) and Ellie (an elementary-school teacher and principal), along with his six siblings. Though his father bred Quarter Horses, Bob got his first true start with horses at age 10, grooming and galloping horses for his father.

He won his first race as a Thoroughbred trainer on Jan. 28, 1979, saddling Flipper Star to take the second race at Rillito in Arizona. Then, a little more than ten years later, he made headlines with his thoroughbred, Thirty Slews, by winning the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Sprint in 1992.

Bob Baffert is widely recognized as one of the most successful trainers in the history of horse racing. He is a Hall of Fame inductee, holds two Triple Crowns, four Eclipse Awards, ten Classic wins, ten Breeder’s Cup World Championship wins, and has trained 13 Eclipse Award winning horses. These are just a few of his accolades!

Bob currently resides in La Canada, California, along with his wife, Jill, a former news anchor at WLKY-32 in Louisville. Bob is the father of five children: Taylor, Canyon, Forest, Savannah and Bode.
